London Mayor Sadiq Khan has told investors that the capital is the “greatest city in the world to invest in” as he set out ambitious plans for housing and infrastructure development at the MIPIM real estate conference.
Speaking in Cannes, Khan acknowledged the challenges London has faced in recent years, particularly in tackling the housing shortage, but described the UK’s new pro-growth government as a “game changer” for the city’s future.
“The energy and diversity of London make it a global powerhouse,” Khan said. “We have a golden opportunity to build, and now is the time to go further and faster.”
The Mayor highlighted key developments that will accelerate growth, including government funding for the regeneration around the Cockfosters Station area and the promise of improved transport links, such as HS2 reaching central London. He also welcomed the government’s recent announcement to tackle planning delays, which he said would put “rocket boosters under the capital’s economy.”
New London investment prospectus to be launched
Looking ahead, Khan will tomorrow formally launch a new London investment prospectus, showcasing opportunities across the capital in housing, infrastructure, and regeneration.
Calling on investors to think beyond financial returns, Khan urged them to consider the legacy they could leave. “Our city is pro-growth and overflowing with opportunities,” he said. “Now is the time to invest and be part of London’s next chapter.”
