SHW has completed the letting of 47 Market Street, an historic Grade II listed building in the centre of Brighton. The retail space will be occupied by a local jewellery and watch selling business for their second location in the area.
The 777 sq ft ‘High Victorian Gothic’ building was erected in c. 1867 and has had many uses over this time, including as a privately funded charity school which transformed to a public school shortly after occupation. It has also been used as a house for emigrants.
The property is prominently situated in a corner position with return frontage onto Market Street and Market Place and retains period features throughout; briefly comprising ground floor sales, first floor ancillary and basement.
Alexander Denning, Graduate Surveyor at SHW, says: “Following a short marketing campaign, we went to an informal best bids situation and subsequently managed the deal through to completion to a local jewellery and watch selling business who have acquired their second shop in the area. The deal demonstrates that prime Brighton retail assets in central positions have retained high levels of interest when brought forward to the market.
