Burney Group has secured a £7.4M loan from OakNorth Bank to develop a new five-storey, 100 bedroom Travelodge hotel adjacent to Ipswich Town Football Club in Portman Road, Ipswich. The loan will also fund a refurbishment of existing retail warehouse space on the site that is less than a mile from the town centre.
The new hotel will have 100 bedrooms – 63 double rooms, 32 family rooms, and five accessible rooms and a 72-cover café.
Daren Burney, founder & managing director of Burney Group, said: “Given the site’s proximity to the train station, town centre and Ipswich Town’s home ground, we expect demand for hotel rooms and the café to be high, especially on match days.”
The development scheme follows Burney Group’s recent development of a 56-bedroom Travelodge in Boston, Lincolnshire, a Co-op store in Norwich, and a Starbucks drive-through in Kings Lynn.
