East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Planning Committee has approved two major developments in Goole that are set to deliver over eight million sq ft of industrial and manufacturing space within the Humber Freeport zone.
Full planning permission has been granted to Finnish manufacturer Metsä Tissue and Wykeland Group for a phased development of the UK’s largest tissue paper mill. The project will deliver around three million sq ft of space and support up to 400 direct jobs, alongside wider supply chain opportunities. The facility is expected to increase UK self-sufficiency in tissue product manufacturing by more than 30%.
In the same meeting, outline planning consent was given to Henry Boot Developments (HBD) and St John’s College Cambridge for an industrial and manufacturing park on land south of the M62, opposite the Metsä site. The scheme will provide more than five million sq ft of space, with unit sizes ranging from 40,000 sq ft to one million sq ft.
Both approvals are subject to conditions and the signing of legal agreements.
Goole is one of three Humber Freeport tax sites, offering a range of investment incentives and benefiting from strong transport links by road, rail and sea.
