The regeneration of Aldershot town centre has taken an "important step forward" with Rushmoor Borough Council's approval of the demolition of key sites in Union Street and High Street sites.
The regeneration of land in Union Street was approved by the council's Development Management Committee in June. The proposals include 100 new homes, 19 retail units and 128 units of purpose-built student accommodation for the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. The scheme will also provide a new public square and creative space for small and independent businesses. 20% of the new homes will be designated as affordable.
Rushmoor Borough Council's Cabinet member for Major Projects and Property, Councillor Martin Tennant, said: "This is another significant step forward in the regeneration of Aldershot town centre.
"Once completed the Union Street scheme will transform a major part of the town centre, increase its vibrancy, and bring significant footfall to Aldershot."
