Plans to deliver 215 new and affordable homes and an improved supermarket on Brentford High Street have moved one step closer with Hounslow’s Planning Committee voted unanimously to approve an application to redevelop the Morrisons supermarket which was acquired by L&Q, the charitable housing association, in 2019.
The approved plans are for an improved supermarket two levels, 215 homes and two smaller commercial units, all fronting the High Street.
The housing association’s plans will see the percentage of affordable homes increased from 25% to 66% and will provide an inclusive mix of tenures; 44 will be for affordable rent, 97 for shared ownership, and 74 for market sale.
By removing studio apartments from the scheme, and replacing these with larger units, L&Q's plans have tripled the amount of three-bedroom homes.
The plans allow for the creation of a publicly accessible square, restoring a historic route between the High Street and St Paul’s Church.
