Turnstone Estate’s £50 million redevelopment Seaway Leisure in Southend has been given the go ahead by the Secretary of State, bringing a much-needed economic boost to the area. Work is expected to start next year on the state-of-the-art year-round family leisure experience, backed by big names such as Empire Cinemas and Hollywood Bowl.
The 2.3 hectare site will accommodate 155,000 sq ft of mixed use accommodation and create up to 550 new jobs, as well as generating £15 million for the local area every year. It includes a multiplex at first floor, six restaurant units, indoor leisure units, an 80 bed hotel and public square, together with 555 car parking spaces.
Empire Cinemas will anchor the scheme with a 1,370 seat state-of-the-art 11 screen cinema including IMAX. Hollywood Bowl will occupy the large leisure unit on the lower ground floor and will incorporate 20 bowling lanes, Hollywood Diner, bar and amusement centre. Travelodge has also been secured for the 80 bed hotel.
